LA County Gun Buyback

LA County held a gun buyback this past Saturday, June 15, from 10AM to 3PM in the Belvedere Park parking lot.

The buyback yielded 152 weapons including assault rifles, handguns, and shotguns. The return of firearms is an anonymous exchanged for gift cards redeemable at Target and Ralphs. The breakdown in prices for various firearms was: $200 for an assault weapon, $100 for a rifle or shotgun, and $50 for a gun that does not work. The gift cards were purchased with narcotics forfeiture funds.

Gun buybacks began in 2005 in Compton and have since expanded into other communities. The most recent buyback resulted in the collection of 1,000 firearms. 11,151 guns in total have been collected in the past few years.
