We’ve learned at A Better LA that the best way to make a lasting impact in inner-cities is to empower those from within the community. This strategy, allows A Better LA to reach broader communities, by partnering with inner-city community members to reduce violence, change the lives of even the highest-risk individuals and create a healthy and safe environment for the entire community.
Here’s what happens when you empower people: On Saturday, August 27th, 2011, A Better LA partner, Advocates for Peace and Urban Unity (APUU) held its 4th annual back-to-school event at Algin Sutton Park, hosting about 1,500 kids and parents. The guests enjoyed food, games, and over 800 kids received backpacks with school supplies, that were donated by several corporate sponsors, including Wells Fargo, Toyota, Girl Skateboards, Office Depot and more. Several happy adults walked away with new appliances that were donated by Southern California Edison, and all families received non-perishable food items courtesy of the donors to A Foundation For Kids.
By supporting A Better LA you are investing in every part of a child’s life and have an impact greater than you can ever imagine. Please donate now to help keep our kids safe.
