 Creating a Common Language of Hope A BETTER LA, founded by USC football head coach Pete Carroll, is a 501(c)(3) comprised of local leaders from the private, non-profit, social service, faith-based, education and law enforcement sectors. We are committed to supporting Los Angeles communities in their goal to reduce violence by empowering change. Our first target area is in South Los Angeles.Overall Vision In 2010, we are enjoying a wide range of improvements and growth in our community. Young people are graduating from school and moving into productive secondary and career opportunities at record levels. Gangs are significantly re-directed from negative to positive activities and are natural helpers within the community, helping the community to grow. Parents benefit from specialized programs designed to enable them to reinforce the language of hope with their children. Active beautification efforts in the community increase respect for people and property. All facets of the community work together for A BETTER LA. Our Mission A BETTER LA mobilizes the knowledge and skills of the community to inspire each person to dream, work and play without fear. We're In, Are You? Things don't have to stay the way they are…the power to make that change resides in each and every one of us. There is strength in our numbers and we leave no one untouched by our message of hope.
